 Canine Fitness

At Canine Nutrition and Fitnesswe believe that fitness along with a well balanced complete diet is an important part of keeping your canine friend happy and healthy.

It is important that your dog has a daily exercise program to keep him/her healthy, agile and well adjusted.  Exercising will not only keep your dog fit, it will provide mental stimulation which is essential for your dog’s emotional well being. An exercised dog is a happy dog!

Benefits of canine fitness:

  • Keeps your canine healthy and agile.
  • Good for weight loss.
  • Builds confidence.
  • Prevents boredom.
  • A fun way to bond with your canine.
  • Helps reduce and sometimes eliminate common behavioral issues such as: excessive barking, digging and chewing.
  • Helps promote a happy canine.

At CNF, when we design a fitness program for your canine, we take into consideration the dog's age and current level of fitness, as well as any pre-existing medical condidtions or injuries that the dog may have.

We also take into consideration what you wish to achieve with your dogs fitness program.  For example, do you want a basic fitness program to keep your canine friend happy and healthy, a weight loss program, or are you going to be competing in performance events.  At CNF, when we design a fitness program for your canine, we take into consideration the dog's age and current level of fitness, as well as any pre-existing medical condidtions or injuries that the dog may have.

Physical Conditions: For dogs that have physical conditions such as hip dysplasia, joint issues or arthritis, they need a special fitness program designed for them.  Such dogs should be given only moderate exercise.  Swimming is a great form of exercise for these dogs, because it is a non weight bearing exercise.  These dogs need to be monitored very closely at all times during their exercise regimen.

Weight Issues: If your dog is carrying excess weight this will increase the stress on their musculoskeletal system.  This in turn can cause further medical issues for your dog.  We can design a weight loss fitness program (which may need to include a diet analysis) to help your dog get back to a good body score/condition.

Important: Prior to starting a fitness program, your dog should be given a thorough physical examination by your veterinarian to ensure that he/she is healthy enough to exercise and is free of any pre-existing medical conditions that could compromise his/her health.

Please Note: All exercise programs should start gradually.  Be consistent with working your dog daily, progressing to a specific fitness level goal.
A true fitness program should not be 'just a weekend activity'.
